Governor's Education Plan Includes Larger Class Sizes 
The governor's education initiative calls for an increase in the student teacher ratio at Maine's middle schools and high schools to 17 to 1. Commissioner Susan Gendron said the shift will save taxpayer dollars, and no teachers will be laid off.

Special education wins with a strike 
Dashane Jones, 14, was on a roll Monday morning at Kentwig Lanes. She grabbed a bowling ball, flung it down the lane and got two strikes in a row. Delighted by her success, she threw her arms in the air, cheered and jumped for joy.
